Providing service user centred care
Service user opinions regarding the place of medication in their mental health management can show wide variation dependent on the effectiveness of the medication, the benefi t the drugs confer and the person’s health beliefs. An additional dimension in this area is the extent to which a person wishes to be involved in his or her health care; from full involvement in the decision-making process to those who would prefer to leave the process to members of the care team .Short- and long-term goals are dependent on the viewpoint the person takes along these continua. Assessment plays an important role in this process, providing people with objective feedback in areas where little progress may be perceived and in the development of further targeted goals and care plans.
