Attachment patterns and longitudinal risk
In families with high levels of socioeconomic risk and disadvantage, particularly
where the mothers have histories of abuse and/or neglect in their own
backgrounds, there is increased risk of a disorganised attachment relationship
developing. This predisposes the child to long-term emotional and behavioural
problems.
The parenting style of young women with multiple risk and disadvantage is
observed to be more punitive and authoritarian and their children are at high
risk of notification to child-protection agencies.
