Couples Therapy Skills and Consulting in Dyadic or Small Group Work
The principles of couples therapy are helpful in dealing with any two people trying to
get along in an organization. The common issues for couples (communication, power,
equity, control, negotiation, etc.) are important in dyadic and small group work and
are basically similar. However, the focus is different. Instead of working on achieving
intimacy or emotional closeness, the focus is on working together on task effectiveness.
There are also no contracts for therapy. The organizational roles structure the
work—especially the power aspects of the relationship (as in a subordinate-supervisor
relationship).
