The child who has difficulties with studies learning disabilities in children checklist
Children have problems with their studies for many reasons. For example, they may need to help their parents by working. The school may be in poor condition or the teacher may be poorly trained; this may make a child feel that education is of no use. There are also important child
mental health problems that can make it more difficult to study. Helping children to stay in school is an important part of health promotion, since educated children grow up to be healthier adults.
The common reasons can be found in the family, school or child. In the family, difficulties with studies may be caused by a lack of adequate parental care or even violence; being a first-generation learner, which means that the child is growing up in a family where the adults have not been to school themselves, may also cause problems. Problems with the school may include poor classroom facilities, large class sizes, poorly trained teachers and the language of chooling (often a European language in many developing countries) not being the language the hild speaks at home.
learning disabilities in children checklist easons found in the child for difficulties with studies could include:
• mental retardation, because of the obvious difficulties in learning;
• hyperactivity, because of the difficulties in concentration and attention;
• depression, because the child feels unhappy and loses interest;
• conduct disorder, because the child ‘misbehaves’ and gets in trouble;
• child abuse, because the child is unhappy and distracted;
• difficulties with hearing or vision;
• drug misuse, more particularly among adolescents;
• dyslexia or specific learning disabilities.
