Practice of therapy of generalized anxiety disorder
In a review, Clark has identified the active ingredients of cognitive therapy for anxiety disorders as: education, verbal discussion techniques, imagery modification, attentional manipulation, exposure to feared stimuli, manipulation of safety behaviours and other behavioural experiments. These therapeutic activities are directly used to address distorted thoughts and beliefs. For more detailed descriptions of the principles and practice of cognitive therapy the reader is referred to Beck, Wells and Curwen, Palmer and Ruddell. CBT is considered also in Chapter 10 of this book.
