social phobia Somatic Symptoms

People with social phobia report experiencing a number of somatic symptoms, including palpitations, sweating, tension, nausea, and blurred vision. Nevertheless, people with social phobia report greater concern over those symptoms that are visible to others such as trembling, shaking, blushing, twitching, and sweating.
Physiological measures generally support these reports by demonstrating that social phobics have greater increases in physiological activity than normal controls when confronting social situations. Interestingly, however, some research has shown that people with social phobia overestimate the degree of visibility of their symptoms.
