symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder
symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder Borderline personality disorder has many features in common with Post-
Traumatic Stress Disorder as these are described in the DSM-IV (APA, 1994).
Individuals who have experienced early abuse may be continue to be distressed
by these events into adult life and experience reliving of these episodes in the
form of nightmares and intrusive recollections. They may experience fear and
anxiety in situations that remind them of the abuse. These post-traumatic features can be particularly intense when the individual becomes a parent, as the
presence of the infant brings back feelings related to the parent’s own childhood.
Some parents may avoid the infant, or become anxious or depressed as they
struggle with memories of their own abuse by caregivers.
