The child who cannot sit still
Many children, especially those under the age of five years, find it hard to sit in one place for a long time. Being able to sit in one place reflects the ability of the mind to pay attention to a particular
task, for example reading a book. As children grow older, the ability to pay attention is one of the essential needs for their education and discipline. If a child cannot pay attention, then he will not
follow what is being taught in the classroom. He will become fidgety and restless. Similarly, if the hild is not paying attention to what his parents want him to do, he is more likely to misbehave.
Some children may become so restless that they may do dangerous things, for example jumping rom heights. In such situations, the child may be suffering from an illness called attention deficit yperactivity disorder (ADHD).
