The quality of adolescent parenting
The quality of adolescent parenting Studies suggest that adolescent parents tend to: • initiate less verbal interaction with their children, and as a consequence their children are at risk of delayed language and cognitive development • have less knowledge than older parents about normal development and have unrealistic behavioural expectations of their children • perceive their children as more difficult and less rewarding • be less sensitive in their interactions and their children have an increased likelihood of developing an insecure (particularly, avoidant) pattern of attachment to their parents.
