When should tonics or vitamins be used?

Tonics and vitamins are very commonly used by people who feel tired. This is because they feel that
tiredness is the result of not eating enough or not having enough vitamins. However, most people
with a tiredness problem will not be helped by taking tonics or vitamins. It is not helpful to give
tonics or vitamins to people who are not anaemic or who do not have obvious features of
malnutrition. Dietary advice, such as eating more green leafy vegetables, fish or lentils (which
contain natural vitamins and minerals), is far better in the long term than tonics. Do not be fooled
by the drug company marketing materials which recommend tonics for anyone who complains of
feeling tired.
